I might be a bit late on this. Wiki has come up with a new project. WikiMapia. This is powered by Google.

Few things about WikiMapia (in their own words!)
WikiMapia is a project to describe the whole planet Earth.

Wikimapia was created by Alexandre Koriakine and Evgeniy Saveliev, inspired by Google maps and Wikipedia.

In this one can add interesting places which you know about which is not already mapped in WikiMapia! Do mark places of public interest & not places of personal interest (like your house!).

My college guys have done a good job in mapping our college NITK, Surathkal.

I would have wanted to mark lot of places in Mysore. For some reason, the major parts of Mysoref [Including Mysore Palace & well my house ] have not been givn in Close-up! Major regions in and around Mysore (including many small towns and villages) are given in Close-up, but Mysore city is not in Close-up! Need to check with Google about it.
