FAQs about me
Places I have lived in:
Though I was born in the hot & dusty town Gubarga which
is located in North Karnataka, I would call myself a Mysorean as I
have lived most of my life in Mysore. My permanent address (as
on my passport) is in Mysore. My mother was in Gulbarga just for my
birth as my aunt was having a nursing home in that town. Right from
my birth (1981) till I joined engineering (1999), I lived in Mysore.
I spent my engineering (1999 to 2003) days at Surathkal
which is on the outskirts of Mangalore. My college (then known as
Karnataka Regional Engineering College or KREC & now known as
National Institute of Technology Karnataka or NITK) is located on the
seashore (Arabian Sea). NITK has got a very huge campus of around 350
acres & some part of the beach is owned by the college which
makes NITK the only college in India which has got a private beach. I
used to spend lot of time in the beach & I miss it a lot now.
In 2003, I shifted my base to Bangalore to join Infosys as
a software engineer (I no longer work at Infosys). Bangalore is known
as the 'Silicon Valley of India' and has got the best weather amongst
all the cities of India. Very high percentage of Indian youth is
living in Bangalore now & living in Bangalore has provided me the
opportunity to meet and know lot of interesting people.
From Bangalore I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in
United States in Jan 2006. I came back to Bangalore few times in
between, but I spent most of my time in Charlotte till May 2007.
Charlotte is a wonderful place. It's more like Mysore in United
States. It's quiet and silent, has less traffic. It has one of the
best weathers in US where it doesn't get too hot & it almost
never snows here. I had very good room-mates here Spot and Rahul with
whom I had great time. I learnt to play tennis here and spent lot of
time playing it with Rahul. Charlotte remains one of the best times
of my life ever.
From Charlotte I moved to go to New York City for work on
my next assignment. I lived in Newport which is just 5 minutes from
downtown New York. Although Newport is technically in New Jersey it
was just 5 minutes from New York City downtown and there were trains
almost every 5 minutes to New York in peak hours. And my room had a
lovely Manhattan Mid-town view! So this was almost like living in
Manhattan as I would spend most of my time outside home at Manhattan,
be it work or partying on weekends. For me New York is probably the
most happening place in the world. Just entering New York one can
feel the energy of New York. It very much like Bombay of US as it has
lot of similarities to Bombay. I would hit dance floor or pub very
often with friends almost every weekend. Fortunately I got my KREC
classmates Titus and Monna staying nearby to my city & had a nice
roomie Chendur. So I had memorable time going around with them. Lot
of my Headstrong colleagues were living nearby, so there was
definitely no shortage of friends for me in New York/Newport.
About my aliases:
Different people prefer to call me by different names! Sheshagiri
Rao Krishna Kumar Paplikar - phew.....its very big, isn't it?!.
Though innocently my father named me as P.K.Sheshagiri Rao, when I
was filling my passport with expanded initials I realized that my
name is very long indeed. Out of my name 'Sheshagiri Rao' is my
grandfather's name, 'Krishna Kumar' is my father's name and
'Paplikar' is my family name! So where is my name? When you add it
all it becomes my name :-). I was the first person born in our huge
family (my grandparents had 10 children & they in turn have
created a huge family!) after my grandfathers death so it was decided
that I should be named after him, so I got this name! Chetan
- This is the name which is closest to my heart. This is the name
used by my parents, brothers, relatives and my childhood friends
(chaddi dosts). The nursing home owned and run by my aunt (Dr.
Bheemabai, Gynecologist & first lady doctor for the entire
Hyderabad-Karnataka region) was located in a building called Chetana
building. Since I was born in this nursing home (Gulbarga, 1981), I
was named 'Chetan'. My family members didn't want to call me by my
grandfather's name (out of respect for him) they choose this
alternate name to be used at home. Chetu & Cheti -
'Chetu' is used by some of my relatives. 'Cheti' is used by my mother
whenever her love flows towards me! Shesh, Shesha, Giri -
These are some of the short forms of my big official name. Since my
name is very large friends & collegues have chosen to use this
shorter variation of my name. Shesho - Friends started to
use this name because of my love for the great master Osho.
What interests me?
Life is my inspiration! I want to live life to its full and
celebrate my presence on this planet!
Travelling is probably the greatest passion I have got. I
want to travel to and live in different parts of the world over the
span of my life. Even my father likes travelling (I think
travelling is in our blood!). When I was a child my father has taken
me to lot of places in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu & Kerala. Along with
my parents I had also travelled to Delhi & surrounding areas,
some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Parts of western UP, parts of
northen MP surronding Indore. When I was 11 year old my father had
sent me to 9 day Himalayan trek organized by Youth Hostel starting
from Rohtak Pass near Kulu & Manali in Himachal Pradesh. In
September 2004, I took a one month break from my work (I was between
jobs) & traveled to Himalayas. This trip was mostly located in
Uttarancal state of North India. I spent lot of time in and around
Rishikesh & from there I travelled to Valley of Flowers &
Hemkund, which are located in the Indo-Tibet border & these are
some of the most beautiful places in the world. I love Himalayas and
I also spent good time in Nepal in 2006. I have travelled a lot in
US and I also managed a trip to Caribbean!
Although I stopped visiting temples with devotion when I was 11
year old, I do have a spiritual side to my personality! My
beliefs are difficult to put into words. I believe that existence is
the God and life is for celebration. I do read lot of spiritual books
by various masters/philosophers. I love to read books by Osho. I find
that the techniques of mediation given by Osho are the most
scientific, effective and appropriate for the modern man. I meditate
regularly.
Reading is another passion which I have nurtured from
childhood. Now a days my reading is mostly confined to newspapers,
magazines and websites. But, once in a while I hit periods of great
passion for books & during these periods I read lot of books. I
read various kinds of books/materials which can be of any subject
like fiction, biography, spirituality, economics, technology etc.
Music is one of the most wonderful things of life. Although
I have never got too deep in learning a musical instrument (I have
tried my hands on few musical instruments) I do appreciate good music
very much. Fusion music (fusion of western and Indian music)
interests me the most. I do want to master some musical instrument
during some phase of my life, when my life is less hectic and more
relaxed.
Cooking I got really forced into cooking after I moved to
US as I am veggie. I learnt few stuff just before moving to US. Once
I started cooking I developed a new passion for it. I spend lot of
time cooking trying out various new recipes which I get from net and
from friends and relatives. I love to have a good kitchen (preferably
open kitchen) with all the stuff I need for cooking. Somehow I never
cook when I am in India as I keep moving around and since there are
so many options to eat out in India. But when I am in US, I make sure
that I maintain a good kitchen and I cook regularly.
Internet and Technology Again even this passion is more
when I am in US. I spend lot of time on internet and with my notebook
(which presently is my amazing Apple Macbook). I love gadgets like
iPod and Smartphones.
I love outdoor activities and they inject more life into
me. In this I don't stick to the same thing. I keep getting
passionate about different different things at different different
times & somehow this helps me to remain fit! few years back I had
become very passionate about running/jogging. I used to run on
beaches. Once I had run from Surathkal to Mangalore (12 KMs) &
another time I had run from my home in Mysore to Mysore Palace &
then back to my home which was totally a 16 KM run! I own a cycle &
once with my friend Vinay Parameshwariah I had gone on a cycling
ride from Bangalore to Mysore (140 KM). This was in May 2004 & it
was the peak of Summer in India then! It was a real tuff experience
as we had to fight heavy traffic, bad roads (the road was being
repaired) & the summer's heat. But it was surely a memorable
experience! I developed a passion for running while in New York and I
did manage to practice and run the Philadelphia Marathon in November
2007. Occasionally I visit gymnasium to get into good shape. I
simply love water & I manage to have a good swim once in a
while. I do hope to live near a fantastic beach or a lovely river
some time in my life!
What are my dreams?
I just love to dream. Dreams are
beautiful & & they give great pleasure to the dreamer. The
best thing is that they come free of cost! Here are some of my
dreams (they might be unrealistic). I hope you don't find me too
honest :-)
To go scuba diving in Andaman &
Nicobar Islands (now I have already done this in Caribbean, so
it's no longer a dream, its a great memory now!).
To become a fashion photographer!
(I have also tried this, so it's again no longer a dream).
To live on a beautiful Island where there should be only me
and a beautiful girl friend who has a great sense of humor (do such
species exist?). The island should have a good beach & a nice
fresh water stream. I would spend my time building hut, building a
boat, going for fishing (although I am a vegetarian, I don't prevent
myself from dreaming this dream!) & collecting fruits! Does this
remind you of a movie.....Bl__ La____....?....:-) PS: I do
have nightmares but I won't list them here :-)
What are my favorites?
Movies: Matrix-1, American Beauty, Forest Gump,
The Ring, ........ Bandhana, Beladingala Baale (Both Kannada)
Books: Tintin comics - My all time favorite. I think
its because of Tintin that the passion of traveling got created in
me. Phantom comics - One of my favorite when I was a child Kane
and Able (Novel by Jeffry Archer), Da Vinci Code (Novel by Dan
Brown). The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank - One of the most
honest books that I have read. This book inspired me to write. The
7 Habits of Highly Effective People - I think this is the best book
ever written in the personal development category From Sex to
Superconsciousness- I have loved various books by Osho & I don't
remember the titles of most of the books of him that I have read, but
I think this one rates amongst the best books of Osho. This is his
most famous/infamous book also :-)

Bryan Adams, Savage Gardens, Michael Jackson.....
