House which I bought in Mysore
This is the house which I recently bought in Jayalakshmipuram, Mysore.
Its an old house & not very modern. I bought it mainly for its location (its one of the best locations in Mysore) & the site dimension (80 feet x 40 feet ). If I happen to shift my base to Mysore in future (might be in another 10 years) I will either do some alteration work on this house or build a new house on this site.
My house is located very near (less than 1 KM towards North West) to the famous Kukkarahalli Lake of Mysore. Click here to see Kukkarahalli Lake on Google Earth. Kukkarahalli_Lake_Mysore.kmz
I would any time prefer to live in a house which is independent & has got good space for gardening than to apartments. People from other cities(esp. from Bangalore) appreciate houses in Mysore because they have lot of space for gardening. (This is an old house having gardening space in the back of the house unlike the modern houses which have garden in front of the house).
I decided to put my money into real estate first before buying a car because I felt that ‘earlier I put my money into real estate better is the property which I get’ which is quite the opposite when it comes to cars. India is a country of one billion people (which is increasing every moment). Over a period of time most of the population in India is becoming urban. So it is becoming more and more difficult to create living space for all these people in urban areas. Land cannot be manufactured unlike cars or mobile phones. India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world & the salary levels in India is rising everyday. Now there are lots of Indians who travel abroad for work. So, now (& more in future) there are lots and lots of Indians having lots and lots of money and living space is something which everybody needs. You guessed it right…now the property prices in India have started to move towards the sky. I did some more research on real estate. Japan is a country having similar population density as India. But, the per capita income of Japan is very high (Japan’s per capita income is $37,180 where as for India it is $620, its incomparable!). Because of this the real estate value of Tokyo city is higher than the real estate value of entire United States! (US has less population density). This should tell you where the property prices of urban areas of India is moving towards!
And why did I decide to buy property in Mysore than in Bangalore?
One reason would be that Mysore is my home town. The property prices in Bangalore are so high that I cannot afford to buy a good spacious apartment (can’t even think of buying independent house ) in Bangalore. Mysore has very less traffic, has cleaner air & is better planned than Bangalore. Mysore has got all the facilities which are needed for a luxurious life. Mysore has swimming pools, race course, zoo, good schools & colleges, sports clubs, good restaurants. Remember Mysore is a city where Maharajas lived. Cauvery river, forests & hills are very near to Mysore because of which there are lots and lots of weekend destinations near Mysore unlike Bangalore. Now-a-days lots of IT companies are opening centers in Mysore & I don’t think that it should be difficult for me to find a good job in Mysore few years down the lane. After the express highway between Mysore and Bangalore gets completed, I don’t think I could have afforded to buy this kind of property in Mysore!
PS: Property prices in Mysore are zooming at a crazy pace. If I sell my house now, I can make a handsome profit

The article is excellent and glossy. The place you purchased house is in very good locality. However the real estate business in mysore already started declining. There are lot of properties for sale where as no buyers in reality. The extentions developed by MUDA during 1990’s does not have enough houses even after 15 years. Only god knows about the new extensions. It is better to be causiuos before investing in ii tier cities like mysore where the real estate is hyped from reality.
